Born: 1906, Medan, Sumatra.

career:

Botanist, educated at Leiden University, taking his Ph.Dr’s degree in 1931 at Utrecht; from 1931-34 teacher of natural history at Wageningen and Utrecht (1933-34); from 1934 onwards on the staff of the General Experiment Station A.V.R.O.S. at Medan, Sumatra. After World War II he was evacuated to Holland, returning to Sumatra in Aug. 1947.
