Born: 1897, Zaandam, N.H., Holland. Died: 1967, Amersfoort, Netherlands.

 

career:

Schoolteacher at Zaandam, 1915-23; subsequently studying biology at Amsterdam University, passing for K IV in 1928 (Ph. Dr in 1936); teacher in natural history and chemistry in the D.E.I. from 1928 onwards, interrupted by internment during the war; in 1947 appointed Director of a secondary school at Batavia.

 

Collecting localities:

W. Java. 1930-42. In the vicinity of Bandoeng, Dago Fall, G. Tangkoeban Prahoe, Kawah Kamodjan, G. Patoeha, Kawah Manoek, G. Papandajan, Tjibodas and G. Gedeh.-1936-38. In mangrove forest W of Batavia.-W. Java: Malabar (1939), Sindanglaja (July 5, 1939), Pulusari G. Kasur Estate (1940), Tjitèrè (Oct. 21, 1949), Muara Angké (Dec. 12, 1949).

700 to 1000 plants (about 2000 specimens) in private herbarium. About 500 nos presented to Herb. Leiden [L] (1953).
