Born: 1891, Vianen, Z.H., Holland. Died: 1966.

 

career:

Botanist, educated at Amsterdam University, where he took his Ph. Dr’s degree in 1919. In the same year appointed Botanist at the Deli Experiment Station; since 1931 Director of the same institute. He returned to Europe in 1934 and was appointed teacher at the School for Colonial Agriculture at Deventer, Holland, in 1937.

Author of many small papers on the flora of Sumatra.1

 

Collecting localities:

From 1921-35. North Sumatra and Sumatra East Coast, e.g.: from fallow tobacco fields; Brastagi (1923); in 1924: Serdang, Takengon (Jan. 14 or 16-20),2 Ketol and Lampahan (Jan. 22), Brastagi;3 in 1926: Belawan and Serdang;4 in 1927: Brastagi, G. Rinteh, Karo Plateau; Tinggi Radja (1928);5 at Lau Deboek Deboek (1929);6 Karo Plateau (1929, 1932).

Herb. Deli Exp. Stat. Medan; many dupl. in Herb. Bog. [BO]; Herb. Pasoer. [PAS now in BO]: 80 dupl. Many labels bearing high numbers, partly upwards of 5000; probably numbered in continuation of his European collections.

Some living plants in Hort. Bog. (pres. 1925).
