career:

Went to New Guinea in 1891 under appointment from the Australian Board of Missions (Anglican), served at Dogura (Oct. 11, 1891-1892); from 1892-Nov. 1894 lay missionary at Taupota in SE. New Guinea. After a visit of Mr Winter on Nov. 21, 1894, he left the country on account of ill health; Mr W. thought him very unsuited for the positions he had been holding.¹

Dendrobium kennedyi Schltr. was named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

He collected on behalf of F. von Mueller,² material probably in Herb. Melbourne [MEL]; also in Herb. Kew [K].³ He collected on the Stirling Range.⁴
