career:

From 1917-20 botanist in the employ of the U.S. Rubber Company, staying for some time in Sumatra East Coast (Kisaran), Instructor in Botany at Michigan University, 1920-23; Specialist in Rubber Investigations attached to the Amazon Expedition of the U.S. Dept of Agriculture, 1923-24; since 1924 Assistant Professor in the University of Michigan. In 1940 he went to Bolivia as a rubber expert; at present Professor at Michigan University.

Memecylon laruei Merr. was named after him.

Collecting localities:

1918. Sumatra East Coast: Asahan and Karo Plateau (cf. sub H.H. Bartlett).-He visited W. Java, e.g. Tjibodas (Oct. 22-23, 1919).

cf. sub H.H. Bartlett, also for literature. He sent specimens ( ? living) to Singapore in 1918.
