Died: Jan. 16 or 19, 1900, Buenaventura, Colombia.

 

career:

Horticulturist who travelled in Cochin-China, the Malay region (see below),1 and some years later in Mexico (1898-99), and Colombia. He died from yellow fever. On his travels in Mexico and Colombia, cf. R. McVaugh: ‘The travels and botanical collections of Eugène Langlassé in Mexico and Colombia, 1898-1899’ (Candollea 13, 1951, p. 167-211).

Some plants were named after him.

1894-95. W. Borneo (May 31-June 25, 1894), visiting: Silat (on the Upper Kapuas), Mt Hjang, Mt Sagu, Silat River, Mt Glam, Kapuas River, Sintang; Singapore Isl. (July 10-Aug. 17), visiting: Bt Timah, Kranji and forest near Kranji, Bt Mandi, Chan Chu Kan, etc.; Île Ste Barbe (situated halfway Lingga and Pontianak in W. Borneo, a little N of the equator; = ? P. Pedjantan) (Aug. 26-Sept. 4); Singapore Is1. (Sept. 15-18), on Bt Mandi and Bt Timah; Philippines, Luzon; Oct. 15-Jan. 1895), visiting: Pagsajan, Paete (hill), Botocan Fall, Majayjay, Mt Banajao (Oct. 24-Nov. 4, and in Jan. 1895), hill of San Matiquiou, Monte de Pieda.
