Born: 1857, Leytonstone, England. Died: 1927, Grantchester, Cambridge, England.

 

career:

Of St John’s College, Cambridge; volunteer naturalist o/b H.M.S. ‘Egeria’, embarking at Colombo (Ceylon).

Commemorated in Phreatia listeri Rolfe.

 

Collecting localities:

Voyage in the ‘Egeria’, 1887.1 Leaving Batavia (Sept. 27); Christmas Island (arriving Sept. 30, staying about 1 week), being unable to penetrate into the centre of the island.2 Seemingly afterwards visiting the Pacific Islands.

Herb. Kew [K]: Christmas Isl., 88 nos (52 phaner.);3 also plants from the Pacific Islands, etc. He made zoological collections too.
