B.S.A. and M.S.A. from Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa; Instructor in Horticulture, Iowa State College, 1903-04; Forest Officer of the Bureau of Forestry, Manila, P.I., 1905-09;¹ in the U.S. Forest Service, 1910-43; retired in 1943. At present Field Representative, Logging Underwriting & Inspection Association, Portland, Oregon.

Some Philippine plants were named after him.

Collecting localities:

Philippines. Mindoro: Mt Halcon (June 1906), upwards to 7250 ft, not reaching the Summit;² Luzon: Mt Pulog (Jan. 2-8, 1909).³
