Born: 1861, Rotterdam, Z.H., Holland. Died: Oct. 29, 1931, Buitenzorg, Java.

 

career:

Came to the D.E.I. in 1888, at the same time as Boerlage (see there); at first volunteer and in temporary service, since 1894 Curator of the Herbarium at Buitenzorg; pensioned off in 1910.

Ixora demonchyana Valeton was named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

W. Java: Tjibodas (May 25, 1890); G. Gedeh-Pangrango (Aug. 23, 1890); Tjipetir (May 8, 1890); Depok and Tjampea (with Burck in 1891); G. Salak; Krawang (June 1891); Bt Toengoel; environs of Buitenzorg, near Kota Batoe, etc.; Centr. Java: G. Slamat (with F.A.F.C. Went in May 1892).-1897.1 Towards the end of Jan. visiting Tjigenteng, Pangentjongan (and Telaga Bodas) and Noesa Kambangan (S of Centr. Java); Centr. Java (Apr.): Pringombo, Djati, Loebah and trip to Telaga and Soebah (coll. on the beach); Centr. Java (June): Ambarawa and Telemojo and via Kedong Djati to Karang Assam; E. Java (Aug.): Banjoewangi, Pantjoer, Rogodjampi and Idjen Plateau.
