Born: 1856, Goor, O., Holland. Died: 1927, Weltevreden, Java.

 

career:

Came to Java in 1873, where he was for more than 30 years in the employ and finally manager of sugar factories; in 1905 appointed Agriculturist in the Agricultural Institute at Buitenzorg, resigning as soon as 1906. After that he gave up agriculture and in 1913 he entered the service of the Archaeological Department, Batavia.

J.J. Smith named some orchids after him.

 

collections:

Herb. Bog. [BO]: orchids, at least from W. Java;1 from E. Java living material to Hort. Bog. (pres. 1896-97). 

He is cited by Merrill (Enum. Born. Pl. 1921) and J.J. Smith as the collector of Borneo orchids. We do not know whether he collected them himself or acquired them by purchase. The Borneo orchids were bought by him.
