Born: 1884, Batavia, Java.

 

career:

After education in Holland came back to Java in 1907 as a 2nd lieutenant in the D.E. Indian Army, and was successively stationed at Semarang, and Djokja (1909-10); on halfpay, 1910-12; in the employ of Borneo Co. Ltd at Soerabaja, 1911-12; exploration tour for the investigation of coconut culture in the Tambelan Islands (on Midai and Benoa) and the Riouw Archipelago in 1912; in 1913 forest exploration in S. Borneo for commercial aims; for coconut culture and cattle breeding in NW. Bali, 1915-18; in the first half of 1919 exploring in Celebes, and subsequently appointed teacher in mathematics at Soerabaja; in 1927 transferred to Batavia; retired in 1934, and settling at Bandoeng where he was appointed Director of a Technical School in 1938. During 1942-45 interned in several Japanese camps, and evacuated to Holland in 1947, now living at Laren.

He was especially interested in birds.1

 

Collecting localities:

NW Bali. He visited the island in 1911 (and P. Mendjangan) and in Febr. 1914; since June 1915 a resident of the island for more than 3 years, in which period crossing NW. Bali several times; in 1922 and 1924 paying visits to the island; in 1926 collecting plants at: G. Goendoel, Soember Timah, NW. coast, Pemoetran and in P. Mendjangan.

Herb. Bog. [BO]: 80 nos from Bali and P. Mendjangan (coll. 1926). The collection 1915-18 was lost when shipped from Bali to Java.
