Rodway, Frederick Arthur

Born: 1880, Hobart, Tasmania.

 

career:

Physician, educated at Melbourne (Victoria) University; medical practitioner, mostly in New South Wales. At present at ‘The Corner’, Nowra, N.S.W., Australia. He is largely interested in the flora, and is the owner of an extensive private herbarium. He and his wife made a trip to Java (see below).

 

Collecting localities:

1938. In the s.s. ‘New Zealand’ sailing from Sydney; Bali (Oct. 3-6): Kintamani, Sangeh, Denpassar, seashore at Kloenkoeng, Bangkasa, Besakih, Tabanan, Karangasem; Centr. Java: Djokjakarta (3 days); Semarang; W. Java: Batavia and visit to the Botanic Gardens at Buitenzorg, and Poentjak Pass. His stay in Java covered Oct. 7-22.

 

collections:

Herb. Kew [K]: dupl. Java and Bali plants (pres. 1939).1 In private herbarium: 13000 specimens, chiefly Australian and Tasmanian species, 20 from Bali and 23 from Java. Only part of the Java and Bali plants were sent to Kew [K] for identification. The collection of these islands comprise especially grasses and weeds.
