Born: 1911, Murray, Kent., U.S.A.

 

career:

Botanist, educated at Murray State Teachers College and the University of Kentucky; from 1941-42 teacher in the latter university; from 1943-45 serving in the U.S. Army; subsequently Graduate Student at Duke University, Durham, N. Carolina. He was in New Guinea with Airborne Engineers from July 1943-Jan. 1945.

 

Collecting localities:

1944. NE. New Guinea, Mandated Territory: Ramu Valley, just above where the Gusap meets the Ramu, near the Mariwassa village, and on the headwaters of the Markham Valley (nos 3001-3024, coll. Febr.-Apr.); vicinity of Aitape (= Eitape) and between the Aitape and Drennimore rivers, on the coral islets Tumeo and Angel just off the shore there (nos 3025-3080, coll. June-Dec.).
