Born: 1884, Amsterdam, Holland. Died: 1966, Wassenaar, Netherlands.

 

career:

Botanist, educated in the University of Amsterdam, taking his Ph.Dr’s degree in 1910 at Utrecht; in November of that year he was appointed Botanical Assistant in the division of Botanical Laboratories (since 1912 division for Plant Diseases) of the Botanic Garden at Buitenzorg, Java; from 1916-23 Director of the General Experiment Station of the A.V. R.O.S. (Medan, Sumatra); from 1923-28 Director of the Department of Agriculture at Buitenzorg; 1928-33 Governor of Surinam and subsequently a member of the Second Chamber in Holland.

 

Collecting localities:

N. Sumatra: Atjeh with L.P. de Bussy (May 4-8, 1917), visiting Bireuën, Takengon, etc., possibly not collecting;1 Tapanoeli Res., SE of Balige, with F.C. van Heurn (Dec. 11, 1918); Sumatra East Coast: Asahan (March 1919, numbered in the series of Lörzing).

In Herb. Bog. [BO], probably but few plants, Danser cites some Nepenthaceae in his monograph of that family.
