career:

Student Gardener at Kew, who worked in the Herbarium also; from 1929-32 rubber planter in Johore, Malay Peninsula, and then in Perak and Kedah.

He is commemorated in Fagraea sparei Henderson.

 

Collecting localities:

1929-41. In various parts of the Malay Peninsula: Collected together with C.F. Symington on G. Sibajak, Sumatra East Coast (Nov. 22, 1931); in Johore (on Sungei Tukong Estate, etc.); in Perak, on the tidal banks of the Krian River at Bagan Serai (Jan. 1932); neighbourhood of Sg. Krian in Perak (1939); Kedah (1940).

Private herbarium (probably lost); Herb. Sing. [SING]: his private coll. of mosses (pres. 1939), and dupl. of the other collections. Collection with C.F. Symington in Herb. Sing., F. nos. [SING]. Also dupl. in Herb. Kew [K];1 dupl. of mosses to H.N. Dixon. Part of his collections were numbered in the S.F. (= Singapore Field) Number series. Also dupl. in Herb. Edinb. [E], Malay Peninsula 1938.
