Born: 1798, Nordborg, Denmark. Died: 1843, London, England.

career:

Physician-botanist, from 1826 surgeon at Frederiksnagore (Serampore) in Br. India, from 1834 Director of Dr Carey’s Botanic Garden there, and from 1841 temporary Director of the Botanic Garden at Calcutta.

collections:

His large herbarium is now in Copenhagen Botanic Museum [C], and contains mainly plants from Serampore and neighbourhood. There are also some plants collected in Sumatra, and in Ins. Malaicae (no date). As nothing is known to me of Voigt ever having visited Malaysia, there remains the probability that the plants were collected by somebody else and later inserted in Voigt’s herbarium. In his herbarium are included plants from the Moluccas, either or not collected by himself.
