Born: 1863, Marchienne-au-Pout, Belgium. Died: May 23, 1900, Davos, Switzerland.

 

career:

Was educated in the University of Brussels (pharmacy 1883), and took his degree of ‘Doct. de Sciences naturelles’ in 1887 , while settled as a pharmaceutical chemist at Marchienne; on the staff of the Botanical Institute at Brussels. In 1896-97 he made a voyage to Java and Ceylon;1 at Buitenzorg he occupied himself with a study of the localization of the alcaloids in different plants.2

 

Collecting localities:

Java (Sept. 1896-March 1897); visiting Krakatau (in Sunda Strait); in W. Java: Buitenzorg, Tjibodas,3 G. Salak, Garoet, G. Goentoer; in Centr. Java: Boeroe Boedoer (= Boroboedoer), Prambanan; in E. Java: Madioen, Bangil, Prigèn, G. Ardjoeno-Welirang (and Lalidjiwo on the slope).
