career:

Entomologist-mycologist, educated at Michigan Agricultural College; from 1912 in the Philippine Islands, Professor and Dean of the College of Agriculture, Los Baņos, P.I. (since 1918); in 1917 on the staff of the Botanic Gardens, Singapore, during a period of leave acting as Assistant Director.

He is the author of many papers on lower Fungi, e.g. in Elmer, Leafl. Philip. Bot., for 1914.

 

Collecting localities:

In the Malay Peninsula (cf. Burkill in Gard. Bull. Str. Settlem. 4, 1927, nos 4-5); ?in Br. N. Borneo (cf. Merrill, Enum. Born. Pl., p. 45); and in the Philippine Islands, chiefly in Laguna Province, Luzon.

Herb. Dept Bot. Los Baņos [CAHUP]: 5000 sheets Malaysian plants (pres. 1922) ; Phanerogams & Fungi of the Malay Penins. in Herb. Sing. [SING]; Herb. Kuala Lump. [KEP]: from Singapore and Penang (pres. 1918); in the years 1912-15 Herb. Manila [PNH] received many Philippine plants for identification and in 1915 ditto 22 Malay ferns, miscellaneous collections of Philip. and Singapore plants were presented in 1916-18; Herb. Deless. (Geneva [G]): 95 plants from the Str. Settlem. (pres. 1919-21), some from the Philippines; Dept of Pathology Los Baņos : 15000 Malayan Fungi (pres. 1921); Herb. Berkeley (Cal.) [UC] and N.Y. Bot. Gard. [NY]: Fungi. He owned a large private collection, mainly consisting of Fungi, which was willed to Manila; this is now lost.
