Born: 1865. Died: 1911, Hongkong.

 

career:

Educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge; joined the Malayan Civil Service 1888-1910, and afterwards Colonial Secretary, Hongkong.

Elytranthe barnesii Gamble was named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

Malay Peninsula. 1900. Exp. towards the mountain of Benom in Pahang:1 leaving Raub (Aug. 31); reaching a subsidiary summit of G. Benom, which he supposed to be G. Kluang Terbang; back at Raub on Sept. 21.
