Born: 1857, Berlin, Germany. Died: 1903, Berlin, Germany.

 

career:

Studied botany in Germany; since 1889 employed by the Semarang Sugar Experiment Station, in 1890 appointed Director of the said institution. In 1893 the Experiment Station was transferred to Bojolali and discontinued in 1894; subsequently Benecke got a situation in Brazil. In 1895 he returned to Berlin, mentally unfit for intellectual work.

Isachne beneckei Hack. was named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

De Wildeman mentions Algae from Semarang and Klaten, Centr. Java, collected by Benecke. Collected also in E. Java, Mar.-Apr. 1891.
