Choris, Louis Joseph Yorik

Born: 1795, Jekaterinoslaw, Russia. Died: 1828, on the way to Jalapa, Mexico, murdered.

 

career:

Painter who accompanied the expedition in the ‘Ruri(c)k’ (1815-18) (cf. itinerary, literature, etc. under Chamisso).1 After his return he settled at Paris; since 1827 correspondent of the Museum, and setting out on a voyage to America.
