Born: 1874, Nijmegen, Gld, Holland. Died: 1919, Padang, Sumatra.

 

career:

Came to the D.E.I. as a commercial employee in 1897; since 1907 in the employ of the Civil Service as Administrator, stationed in New Guinea, respectively at Merauke 1907-1909, Manokwari 1909-10, and in 1912 at Merauke again.1

Rhododendron coenenii J.J.Sm. was named after him.
