Born: 1891, Schiedam, Z.H., Holland. Died: 1943, Groningen, Holland.

 

career:

A botanist, formerly school-teacher, who got his education at Amsterdam University, where he took his Ph.Dr’s degree in 1921; natural history teacher at Haarlem, 1920-25; in 1925 he was granted the Buitenzorg Fund, went to the D.E.I. and remained for some years temporarily on the staff of the Buitenzorg Herbarium. At the end of 1929 he returned to Holland, was at first appointed Assistant and in 1931 Extraordinary (since 1934 Ordinary) Professor in the University of Groningen.

He is the author of many systematic and genetic papers; in the Buitenzorg period he wrote revisions of the Polygonaceae, Nepenthaceae and Loranthaceae, published in the Bull. Jard. Bot. Buitenzorg.

He is commemorated in the genus Dansera.

 

Collecting localities:

In the years 1925-29 especially in W. Java, viz near the coast, Oude Haven (Old Harbour) of Batavia (1925), Tjibodas on G. Gedeh (Dec. 1925, 1926), Bekassi (1926), Priok (Apr. 4, 1926); several times in Priangan Residency, G. Gedeh, G. Salak, environs of Buitenzorg and Batavia; Kamodjan near Garoet (May 23-June 2, 1928).-In E. Java he collected at: Tosari (G. Tengger) (end of Dec. 1927-beginning of 1928) and in the environs of Poenten (end of 1928-beginning of 1929): Poenten, Tjobanrondo, G. Ardjoeno.

Herb. Groningen [now in L], partly in Herb. Bog. [BO]; 101 dupl. (and European collections before 1925) in Herb. Leiden [L]. The collection from Kamodjan consists of 112 nos, numbering above 6700. He numbered his Javan collection from no 6000 onwards.
