career:

Joined the Forest Department Malay Peninsula in 1931; since 1936 State Forest Officer in Brunei (NW. Borneo); seconded Fiji in 1941. Left Singapore under the Malayanisation scheme on Feb. 24, 1960, for Australia. He later returned to England.

Shorea flemmichii Symington was named after him.

In Herb. Kuala Lump. [KEP]: large amount of excellent herbarium material from trees in Brunei (NW. Borneo); also material from the Malay Peninsula. He numbered in the C.F. (see sub Conservator of Forests) series.
