career:

A resident of Ambon (Moluccas), descendant of Don Rafael de Fretes and the former Radjahs of Ema.1

A certain R.A. de Fretes, Overseer, and besides President of the District Joint Court at Boero (= ? Boeroe), compiled a list of timbers of Boeroe (with Pikaolis, in 1847), mentioning vernacular names only.2 He may be identical with the collector.

Antiaris fretessii Teijsm. &. Binn. was named after him (Cat. Hort. Bog. 1866, p. 84).

Partly in Herb. Utrecht [U], partly in Leiden [L] and Herb. Bog. [BO]; in the latter herbarium some plants numbered in the H.B. series. He forwarded plants to Hort. Bog. from 1865-68, mainly from Banda, Batjan, Boeroe, etc. Several of his plants are described in Miquel, Ann. Mus. Lugd. Bat.
