Born: 1897, Merces, Goa, India.

 

career:

Since 1919 Assistant Curator in the Gardens Department, Str. Settlements. In the beginning of 1940 he took his Dr Sc. degree at Bombay University. Pensioner, re-engaged Botanist, ceased to work for the Botanic Gardens, Singapore, in August 1960. He has continued to work, however, at the Botanic Gardens on an assignment for the Sarawak Government; later supervising Colombo-plan Fellows.

Author of many papers, especially on nomenclature and the systematics of Palmae and Araceae, for the greater part published in the Gard. Bull. Str. Settlements.

 

Collecting localities:

Malay Peninsula. 1919-hodie, e.g. W.side of Malaya (May 20-June 19, 1937), G. Baling, Kedah (June 4, 1937) and Pontian Distr. of SW. Johore (towards the end of 1939).-Br. N. Borneo: Mt Kinabalu with Clemens (see there) (6 weeks, March-Apr. 1932).
