A resident of Padang, Sumatra West Coast, sent plants to Buitenzorg in 1873.

He may be identical with A. van Gils, a member of the ‘Kon. Natuurkundige Vereeniging’ (Batavia), president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Padang, since 1866 Consular Agent of France.
