career:

Gardener, attached to Macartney’s Embassy to China (itiner., liter., etc. cf. sub Staunton).1

The genus Haxtonia Caley (= Olearia) was named after him.

 

collections:

In Herb. Banks = Brit. Mus. [BM], including Munronia javanica R.Br., collected by Haxton on P. Condor.2 He may have collected a few plants in Java and Sumatra.
