Hitchcock, Albert Spear

Born: 1865, Owassa in Michigan, U.S.A.

Died: Dec. 16, 1935, o/b City of Norfolk, returning from Europe.

 

career:

Since 1901 agrostologist, Senior Botanist and Custodian of the section of grasses of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington; he took his D. Sc. degree at Iowa State College in 1920. He made extensive travels in the Orient, Africa, and America, for the study of grasses.

Author of many agrostological papers.

He is commemorated in several plant names.

 

Collecting localities:1

1920. Philippines. Leaving Washington (the last of Apr.); arriving in Luzon, Manila (June 9); spending 19 days in the islands, mostly Luzon, visiting Los Baños, ascending Mt Makiling and St. Tomas (near Baguio); subsequently visiting Japan, China, and Indo-China, returning in the second half of December.
