Born: 1892, Priaman, Sumatra.

 

career:

Got his education as agriculturist in Holland; Agricultural Officer in Sumatra, 1915-20; planter, and subsequently Labour Controller of the Inspection of Labour in the Outer Possessions, 1929-33; before the war Head of an Indonesian school for agriculture at Kajoe Tanam, SW of Padang, Sumatra. Orchid amateur.

Oberonia latifii J.J.Sm. was named after him.
