Born: 1736, Scotland. Died: 1812, London, England.

 

career:

Surgeon of the East India Company, who accompanied some voyages to the East. In 1768 graduated M.D. Edinburgh. In 1772 with Banks to Iceland. In 1777 appointed physician to the Royal Household at Windsor.

 

Collecting localities:

In the Indiaman ‘Drake’, 1762-63, visiting India and China.-Again as Surgeon of the ‘Hampshire’, 1765-67.

Herb. Brit. Mus. [BM]: plants from China, the Cape, St Helena, Johanna Isl. and the East Indies. The collection might include some Malaysian plants.
