Piper, Charles Vancouver

Born: 1867, Victoria, B.C., Columbia. Died: 1926, Washington, D.C., U.S.A.

career:

Educated in the universities of Washington and Harvard; from 1883-92 residing at Seattle; Professor of Botany in Washington State College, 1892-1903; Agrostologist of the Bureau of Plant Industry, Washington, 1903-26. He was at the disposal of the Bur. of Agriculture, Manila, P.I., to examine the possibility for improving forage conditions there, in 1911-12. In 1911 he visited the Buitenzorg Botanic Gardens.

The genus Piperia, and several plant species (Polyosma piperi Merr. etc.) were named after him.
