Rothert, Karol Wladyslaw

Born: 1863. Died: 1916, St Petersburg, Russia.

 

career:

Professor at Riga and Odessa, made a study tour in the D.E.I. from January till November 1909. He made some trips, and was working on systematic anatomy in the Treub Laboratory at Buitenzorg.1 Some ferns were named after him.

 

Collecting localities:2

1909. W. Java: Tjibodas, G. Gedeh (March; possibly later for a 2nd time, at least Dammerman states that he visited this place twice); with Dr W. Arnoldi (see there) to the Duizend Islands, Bay of Batavia; N. Celebes: Manado Res., subdivision of Bwool (May 4); Moluccas: Gisser (= Geser) on P. Ceram Laoet (May 11); Aru Islands (with Dr W. Arnoldi): P. Trangan; Noesa Kambangan, S of Java, studying the mangrove; E. Java: G. Idjen (June); W. Sumatra: G. Taloek (Nov.); probably sailing from Padang back to Europe.

He collected much material, incl. a fine collection of Hymenophyllaceae, for different scientific institutions. Duplicates in Herb. Bog. [BO].
