Born: 1787, Wernigerode, Germany. Died: 1875, Wernigerode, Germany.

career:

Is cited by Miquel (in Ann. Mus. Bot. Lugd. Bat. 1, 1863, p. 47) as the collector of Gleichenia vulcanica Blume in Java. Studied law, but had a large interest in natural history and geology. He had an extensive correspondence with Kunze, Sprengel, Slechtendahl, and others, and owned private collections, including 200 portfolios of dried plants, which were bequeathed to the royal collections at Wernigerode. The Java plants (cf. Fl. Mal. I, 1, 1950, and ibid. 11, 1, 1963, p. 159) were certainly not collected by himself.
