Born: 1882, Willesley, Mass., U.S.A. Died: 1929, probably Surigao, Mindanao, P.I.

 

career:

At first school-teacher in the Philippines; subsequently cattle-breeder and professional plant collector in Mindanao.

He is commemorated in the genera Wenzelia Merr., and Wenzelia Tanaka, and in some plant species (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

 

Collecting localities:

Philippines. Leyte: near Dagami, etc. (March 1913-15, and possibly later too); Mindanao, evidently residing in the northern part at Surigao (till his death in 1929).
