Born: 1905, Pernau, Russia.

 

career:

Came to Holland in 1915, studied botany at Amsterdam University where he took his Ph.Dr’s degree in 1935. In 1936 he went to Java and was appointed in the Marine Biological Laboratory, Batavia.

 

Collecting localities:

W. Java: G. Tangkoeban Prahoe and Tjinjiroean (c. June 1936); islands in the Bay of Batavia: Dapoer and Kerkhof (Apr. 30, 1938); W. Borneo (March 1940): Pontianak, the Kapoeas as far as Sanggau; SE. Borneo (May 1940): Barito region as far as Tandjoeng Djawa.

 

collections:

Collection 1936 was dried and poisoned with sublimate in the Buitenzorg Herbarium, but subsequently sent back to Westenberg. Herb. Bog. [BO]: 10 nos of Algae, sea-weeds, etc., coll. 1938 (1 from Dapoer).

Hort. Bog.: seeds from Borneo (pres. 1940).
