career:

Spent part of her youth with her parents in Hongkong, which gave her a lifelong affection for the Far East; later she matriculated at London University, and subsequently spent two years at the Horticultural College, Swanley. In 1914 she made a trip to the U.S. A., and across the Pacific to Hongkong; in 1920 she went to Canton for two years, in this period for the first time collecting plants. Since 1926 she spends part of every year volunteering in the Kew Herbarium. In the thirties she made a 2nd world trip for pleasure, during which plants were collected (see below).

 

Collecting localities:

Nov. 1934-June 1935. By cargo steamer (stopping at Penang, Port Swettenham, and Singapore) to Hongkong, spending 3 months between that island and Canton; brief stay in Luzon (P.I.): Manila (March/Apr. 1935, 3 days), collecting a few specimens, chiefly at Montalban. The rest of the trip was outside the Malaysian region.

Herb. Kew [K]: Philip. plants etc. (pres. 1935); she evidently collected at Honolulu too. In total c. 600 specimens (incl. 300 from Canada). Partly dupl. in Canton Sun Yatsen Herb. [SYS].
