Born: 1815, The Hague, Holland. Died: 1889, The Hague.

 

career:

Joined the D.E.I. Civil Service in 1837; in 1842 he was appointed Assistant Resident of Djokjakarta, in 1842 of Salatiga, and in 1846 of Buitenzorg; in 1853 Resident of Banioemas. in 1855 of the Priangan Regencies, and in 1858 of Soerabaja; from 1860-64 a Member of Council. (‘Raad van Indië’).

He is commemorated in Pavetta wijckii Hassk. (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936), a species collected in Noesa Kambangan (S of Centr. Java) ‘unde misit ad hort. bot. speciem hanc elegantem Mr. H.C. van der  Wijck, provinciae Banjumas turn tempore praefectus.’1

In 1854 he forwarded some cuttings of ‘widjojo koesomo’ (Pisonia sylvesfris Teijsm. & Binn.) to Hort. Bog.2
