Born: 1874, Uichteritz near Weissenfels a/d Saale.

 

career:

From 1901-21 surgeon of the Rhinish Mission in the hospital at Péaradja near Taroetoeng (Batak Lands, Tapanoeli, N. Sumatra). Early in 1933 he departed to the Batak Lands again. Collector of ethnographica and ferns in the vicinity of his residence.

Author of some ethnological papers.1

Rosenstock2 named some ferns after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

He forwarded some 200 ferns (coll. 1910-13) to E. Rosenstock (Gotha) (Herb. Rosenstock = Berlin [B]), who based a paper on this collection;2 dupl. Sumatra ferns (1913) in Herb. Leiden [L]. Possibly collections were made after 1914 too.
