career:

An American who for many years resided in the Philippines, where he met Gaudichaud (see there) in 1836. He rendered essential service to Hugh Cuming, when the latter visited that Archipelago in the thirties of the nineteenth century.

Quercus woodii Hance, a plant discovered by Wood in Luzon, was named after him (cf. Journ. Bot. 12, 1874, p. 240-241).
