Zimmermann, Albrecht Wilhelm Philipp

Born: 1860, Braunschweig, Germany. Died: 1931, Berlin, Germany.

 

career:

Was educated at Leipsic; from 1885-96 Lecturer in Botany and later Extraordinary Professor, successively at Leipsic, Tübingen, and Berlin; from 1896-1901 Botanist at Buitenzorg (Java) for the cultivation of coffee. Towards the end of 1901 he sailed for German East Africa, to be appointed on the staff of the ‘Kais. Biol. Landwirtsch. Inst.’ at Amani; from 1911-20 Director of the said institution. In 1920 he returned to Germany; since 1922 a member of the ‘Biol. Reichsanstalt’, Berlin-Dahlem; retired in 1925.

Author of several agro-botanical papers.

Oberonia zimmermanniana J.J.Sm. was named after him.

Fungi from Java, 1902; orchid from G. Malabar, W. Java.

Especially Fungi.1 In Herb. Berl. [B]: 34 dried Fungi and 22 nos in alcohol (pres. 1902) from Java; Herb. Bog. [BO]: an orchid from G. Malabar, W. Java.
