Born: c. 1845.

career:

Was a member of the Bonito Expedition sent to New Guinea by the Australian Geographical Society in 1885, under the command of Capt. H.E. Everill. Bäuerlen was the special Botanical Collector of the expedition, as such recommended by F. von Mueller, for whom he already collected previously; some other members were J.W. Haacke as chief scientist (zoology and geology), and S.A. Bernays (see those) as surgeon and botanist. Taken into consideration the number of members, the results of this trip have been very poor.

Bäuerlen has been commemorated in the plant species Ficus baeuerleni King, Aglaia baeuerleni C.DC., &c.
