Born: 1903, New York, N.Y., U.S.A.



Anthropologist, educated at Columbia, who took her Ph. Dr’s degree in California in 1932, where she worked for several subsequent years; Professor in the Columbia University, N.Y. City. 

Author of: ‘The people of Alor. A social-psychological study of an East Indian island’ (1944).


Collecting localities:

She took part in the Ethnological Mission of the said University, making explorations in the Isle of Alor (Lesser Sunda Islands), when stationed at Kalabahi from 1938-Febr. 1939.



In Jan. 1939 she collected 99 nos of useful plants which were presented to Herb. Bog. [BO]; they were identified by Dr van Steenis.1
