Boorsma, Willem Gerbrand

Born: 1867, Katwijk a/Zee, Z.H., Holland. Died: 1937, Oegstgeest, Z.H., Holland.



Pharmacist, graduated (Ph. Dr) at Utrecht University in 1891; in the same year he went to the D.E.I., where he was appointed Military Dispenser; Chief of the Pharmacological Laboratory of the Buitenzorg Botanic Gardens, 1892-1917, and since 1904 besides teacher at the School of Agriculture at Buitenzorg; since 1914 until his retirement Director of the said school. He was the editor of the periodical Teysmannia from 1911-22.

His publications are all in the field of chemistry and pharmacology.

Piper boorsmae C.DC. was named after him.



Herb. Bog. [BO]: haphazard specimens from excursions, e.g. from P. Boeled, Bay of Batavia (Apr. 30, 1911). New Guinea Pipers were collected on his behalf; preserved in Herb. ?. In Herb. Kol. (= Ind.) Inst. Amsterdam: some specimens of plants (1912 and previously); in Show Mus. Berl.: 59 nos pharmacol. coll. from Java (pres. 1907).

Hort. Bog.: in the course of years many living plants from several localities.
