Bosscha, Karel Albert Rudolf

Born: 1865, The Hague, Holland. Died: 1928, Malabar, Priangan Res., Java.

 

career:

Studied at Delft Technical College and went to the D.E.I. in Dec. 1887, where he was appointed employee at Sinagar Estate near Tjibadak (W. Java). After half a year he went to Sambas in W. Borneo, employed at the diggings until 1892; in the latter year he returned to Sinagar Estate; in Aug. 1896 he undertook the management of Malabar Estate.

He was a promoter of science and had a great part in the foundation of the Technical College at Bandoeng, the Observatory at Lembang, etc.

 

Collecting localities:

W. Java. In 1903 on Malabar Estate; also collecting near Taloen and Pengalengan.

Herb. Bog. [BO], e.g. a species of bamboo, Balanophora, Aristolochia, and orchids (the latter for J.J. Smith); Herb. Leiden [L]: material of Morus macroura Miq. Living plants to Hort. Bog. (pres. 1902, 1906, 1910).
