Born: 1886, Medemblik, N.H., Holland. Died: 1973, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

 

career:

Mining engineer, educated at the Technical College at Delft (1903-08); from 1909-10 he studied in the University of Paris, and made scientific investigations in South Africa; in 1910 he took his Dr’s degree at Delft; mining engineer in the D.E.I., 1910-17; in 1918 appointed Professor of Geologay at Delft (1918-29), in 1925 Honorary Professor at Utrecht; since 1928 Professor of Geology at Amsterdam University (1929-57). After his retirement he still lived in Amsterdam.

Author of numerous books and papers, mainly of the geology of the former Dutch East Indies.

 

collections:

Collected some orchids in Waigeo(e) and Salawati (Papoea Islands), which he forwarded to Hort. Bog. in 1915.
