Born: 1871, Copenhagen, Denmark. Died: 1950, Copenhagen, Denmark.

 

career:

Teacher in natural history at Frederiksberg College, 1900-36; Mag. Scient. in 1920, Senior Master in 1932.

He made three voyages to the East (see below), including Siam (1929, 1937), and the China coast (1937, 1938), from which he brought home collections of plants.

 

Collecting localities:

1st Voyage, 1923-24. Malay Peninsula: South Johore (Nov. 9-21, 1923); E. Java: Djember (Nov. 27, 1923-March 26, 1924), making excursions in the whole of Besoeki; Malay Peninsula: South Johore (Apr. 15-May 15, 1924).-2nd Voyage, 1929-30. Malay Peninsula: Selangor, Teluk Merbau Estate (Dec. 7-26, 1929); E. Java: Djember (Jan. 3-Apr. 7, 1930); SE. Borneo: Bandjermasin (Febr. 17-25, 1930).-3rd Voyage, 1937-38. Malay Peninsula: Selangor, Teluk Merbau Estate (June 17-Oct. 24, 1937), making excursions to large parts of Negri Sembilan, and southern Selangor, and two small trips to Bt Fraser in Pahang (June 26-28, Aug. 7-9); Sumatra East Coast: Prapat (Febr. 9-12, 1938), Brastagi (Febr. 16-23).

 

collections:

Herb. Copenhagen [C]: c. 1500 specim.; some dupl. in Herb. Sing. [SING]; U.S. Nat. Herb. Wash. [US]: 750 from E. Java (numbered betw. 3-280) and New Caledonia (must be wrong). The plants from New Caledonia in U.S. Nat. Herb. Wash. were rightly collected by I. Franc (information received from Dr Molholm Hansen, Copenhagen).

Christensen described a new fern, collected in E. Java.1
