In the Indian Forest Service, 1872-1903; Inspector General of Forests, India, 1900-03; in 1900 deputed to report on the forests of the Malay Peninsula.

Collecting localities:¹

1900. Malay Peninsula: travelling rapidly through the three Settlements in turn; then from the Dindings through Perak and Selangor, into Pahang via the Semangkok Pass to Kuala Lipis and down the Pahang River, thence to the Kuantan and Rompin Rivers.

Specimens gathered for identification in 1900 were sent by him to Herb. Sing. [SING].

(1) cf. Burkill in Gard. Bull. Str. Settlem. 4, 1927, nos 4-5. The year erroneously mentioned as 1899; Ridley states in Ann. Rep. Sing. Gard. for 1900 to have accompanied Mr Hill early in that year.
