Holle, Karel Frederik

Born: 1829, Amsterdam, Holland. Died: 1896, Buitenzorg, Java.

 

career:

Came to the D.E.I. in 1844, and two years later entered Government service; till 1856 he filled various administrative offices; in the latter year appointed Manager of the tea estate Tjikadjang and in 1862 founder of tea estate Waspada on the W. slope of G. Tjikorai, both situated in W. Java. He was a convinced promoter of the interests of the Indonesians, especially fighting for improvement of education and agricultural methods, and at the end of 1871 he was nominated Honorary Adviser for Native Affairs. In 1889 he settled at Buitenzorg.

Author of many papers on native agriculture, cattle-breeding, etc.1
