career:

About 1913 Ch. Joseph, orchid grower at Buitenzorg, W. Java, employed a native collector. The latter brought home a large number of specimens of Dendrobium tetraedre Lindl., all with peloric flowers (cf. J.J. Smith in Nat. Tijdschr. N.I. 88, 1928, p. 136).

Joseph was commemorated in Sarcanthus josephii J.J.Sm. (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936), which later proved identical with S. terminus Rchb.f.
